Permanent International Arbitration Center Specializing in Intellectual Property Slated to Open in Tokyo Topics
As technology has progressed and more intellectual property applications have been filed, the number of intellectual property disputes has also increased worldwide. In order to help resolve these cases, the Japan Patent Office has been working to help develop a permanent international arbitration center that specializes in intellectual property disputes.
The arbitration center is currently slated to open sometime in September and will be Asia’s first arbitration center specializing in these types of disputes. Singapore and Hong Kong also have international arbitration tribunals but have their own specialties in areas such as maritime transportation or trade.
The arbitration body will have more than 10 experts from around the world registered as arbitrators, and the arbitration center hopes to resolve disputes within one year.
