Naoki FUKUMURA

BIOGRAPHYNaoki FUKUMURA studied textile chemistry at Kyoto Institute of Technology. Mr. Fukumura then continued his studies at Osaka City University's Faculty of Engineering where he received his master's degree in applied chemistry.
In 1981 Mr. Fukumura passed the patent attorney examination and was registered as a patent attorney in Japan.
His previous work experience includes working for Ube Industries. At first Mr. Fukumura conducted research on polymeric reactions of liquid polybutadiene and applications for liquid polybutadiene in their Polymer Research Center. After that he was transferred to the department where he was involved with corporate intellectual property matters.
Following his time at Ube Industries, Mr. Fukumura worked at Misawa Patent Office where he was responsible for the filing of patent applications as a patent attorney. He utilized his experience and knowledge in chemistry and corporate intellectual property to aid in the prosecution of applications both in Japan and abroad.
In 1983 Mr. Fukumura established the Fukumura International Patent Office. As director he was involved with all matters related to obtaining and protecting patent rights such as application prosecution, appeals, invalidation trials, cancellation litigation, and infringement lawsuits.
In 2016 he became the advisor to Sakamoto and Partners.
In addition to his work as a patent attorney, Mr. Fukumura is also an instructor at the Kanagawa Prefecture Invention Association where he focuses on educating the general public on the inventive process. He also is involved with the Kawasaki Boys and Girls Invention Club where he helps children demonstrate their ingenuity.

PRACTICE AREASMr. Fukumura is a certified patent attorney who specializes in affairs related to Intellectual Property rights. He has done work in the areas of prosecution, prior art searches, appeals and litigation related to patents, designs and trademarks.
