BiographyYuji HONDO is a registered patent attorney in Japan. He graduated from the University of Tsukuba and continued his studies at the university’s graduate school, where he received a master’s degree in science and technology. After completing his postgraduate studies, he joined the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and worked for many years examining patent applications in the field of chemistry. During his time as a patent examiner, he actively studied compound searches, which require a particularly high level of skill. He also provided advice to other examiners and guidance to the JPO’s registered search organization (subcontractors for prior art searches, etc.).
Following his retirement from the JPO, he started his own patent law firm. Through community-based consulting services, he was involved in the prosecution of patent, design, and trademark applications in fields including those outside the chemical field.
He is ready to draw on his experience in patent searches, which he conducted daily as a JPO examiner, and commercial database searches, including compound searches, his specialty, to respond to clients’ search requests. Having worked with a variety of clients at his patent law firm, he also strives to communicate fully with his clients to clarify their intellectual property and even find new hidden opportunities.
