2020 Olympic Mascot Design Committee Received Over 2,000 Submissions
Between August 1 and August 14, 2017 The 2020 Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games received design submissions from the public for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics mascot. The committee received a total of 2,042 submissions with 1,774 of those submissions being from individuals and 268 of those submissions being from groups.
The next phase of the process will be for the mascot panel to create a short list of mascots. These mascots will then be voted upon by elementary students across Japan who will vote for their favorite mascot between December 11 and January 19. Later the final design will be announced and the mascot panel will decide on a name for the mascot.
